According to the Business Dictionary (2017), a mompreneur is a new name created to describe a multi-tasking mother who can balance both the stresses of running a home-based business as an entrepreneur, and the time-consuming duties of motherhood at the same time. WHEW! The definition alone has me feeling overwhelmed, so you can only imagine the feelings of mompreneurs on an everyday basis. While I can’t say being a mom and an entrepreneur is not a daunting task, I a can tell you that both are rewarding. I recently co-authored a book called Just A Girl Who Decided To Chase Hers with some amazing women giving our personal insight on this very topic. As a mompreneur here are a couple of tips of how I try and notice the word “try’ to stay balanced:
Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself - While this can be hard not to do, think about all the good you have done. Example: Are the kids healthy? Is your significant other pleased? Are your businesses flowing effectively? If you answered yes to these questions, then my fellow mompreneur you are doing just fine. Pat yourself on the back.
Don’t Try To Do Everything At Once - I know, I know this can be hard at times. If you are anything like me your mind races at a thousand miles per hour. Focus on one goal at a time; your stress level will be much lower.
Take Some Time For Yourself - Now this one is difficult. However, please schedule some me time. You can’t pour into others from an empty tank.
Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help - Nothing great is ever done alone. Trust me whether it’s an assistant, a housekeeper, or even your best friend. Asking for help can help you balance the pressures of home and work.
Remember If It Was Easy Everyone Would Do It - Consider yourself blessed that you were one of the chosen ones by God to take on such a huge task.
So take time, relax, and bask in your success. You deserve it!
